COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY

Comprehensive Sustainability

Sustainability has revealed itself as one of the most difficult challenges that humanity is facing now and for the next future. How we can work on sustainability? XERDAN introduces and formalizes the concept of COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY as the possible present solution to environment-economy-society-culture challenges, convinced that it is impossible to solve only one aspect of this system to achieve sustainable results in the whole.

In doing so, XERDAN proposes the systemic instruments to approach the complexity of these problems. XERDAN uses to approach the Comprehensive Sustainability with the X_Sphere© multidimensional matrix. That is, in fact, an exclusive approach of XERDAN to prevention and problem solving, and can be successfully applied to reach Comprehensive Sustainability. It is possible, with it, to work on the flows, both material and virtual ones, identifying the possible actions needed to obtain immediate and long term balance for the environment, the resources, the energy, the economy, the social interconnections – internal and external ones, the territorial planning, the security, the education and the exchange flows with the immediate and the farer areas.

WHY DO WE NEED A COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY?

The recent COP 21 and the Paris Agreement, and all the movements, reactions, and initiatives related to those events, show how much important is, for all the nations, or for every community, but also for the economic subjects, enterprises, companies – and individuals too, to engage into an effective and true sustainability, not only for the environment preservation, but also for ourselves and for positive economic results. The consolidated concept of “sustainable development” as it has been defined and generally accepted since the Brundtland Report, is showing, at the test of the present times, several limits that must be overcome, in order to achieve the desired goals, to optimize energy and resources and to attain the necessary balance in every activity and process. Already, many organizations, local communities, private firms, are changing the paradigms with which they confront sustainability and development together.

WHY THE X_Sphere© MULTIDIMENSIONAL MATRIX CAN LEAD US TO DESIRED GOALS?

The X_Sphere© multidimensional matrix, an exclusive approach of XERDAN to prevention and problem solving, is in fact successfully applied to the Comprehensive Sustainability, including Economy, Environment, Society and Culture interconnected into the system. It is possible to identify the possible actions needed to obtain immediate and long term balance for the environment, the resources, the energy, the economy, the social interconnections – internal and external ones, the territorial planning, the security, the education and the exchange with the immediate and the farer areas.

  WHAT DOES XERDAN OFFER?

Our proposal is, first of all, for a training in COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY and the use of the X_Sphere© Matrix for it. The training aims to approach sustainability giving the attendees a general information and the essential instruments to develop policies, projects and planning for the specific issues in their own area of interest and the space in which they operate for sustainability - in an innovative way per se, widely applicable to the Strategic Design processes, and connected with all the other issues of the whole system.

WHAT IS XERDAN COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY CONCEPT?

The proposed methodology is based on “Circle Design” and X_Sphere©, integrating different approaches to economic, social, environmental and educational sustainability.

The method in itself has been applied to, and included into the seminar structure: it is based on a multidimensional, sphere concept that produces an interconnected system, that is treated through different methodological instruments integrated into it:

  • SPHERICAL DESIGN
  • GENERAL SYSTEM THEORY
  • TOPOLOGY
  • SYNERGETICS

It is possible to deal with the project and planning processes starting from different initial points, but always including all the components and variants into the process to the final adopted scheme, following different paths but generating an useful pattern.

WHAT ARE THE AREAS OF INTEREST TREADED INTO COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY?

The areas of interest treated into the training are:

  • Strategic Design
  • Process and Systemic Design and Planning
  • Analysis of the present and potential situation for sustainability in the are
  • Crises and potentialities concepts
  • Environment, Economy, Society and Culture
  • Interconnections
  • Planning and use of the matrix

  WHAT ARE THE TOPICS?

The topics will include planning and management of the strategies inherent the policies for the territorial administration and the related services, with an overall vision that can take to the capacity to afford complex situations, including economic, environmental, social, educational needs, harmonized into a decisional process. It will be fundamental the analysis of crises and emergencies, mostly with the intent of prevention, where the capacity to reach a balanced solution is required, within complex situations, considering the effects at short, medium and long term, and the impacts on the different scales, both in time and space.

FOR WHOM IS THE COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING THOUGHT?

The training is conceived for professionals, managers and employees of the Government, of local Administrations, private companies, financial sector, planners, social agencies, energy managers, NGOs.

HOW IS IT ORGANIZED THE COMPREHENSIVE SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING?

While a whole basic course requires 40 hours, it is possible to articulate the seminars in 8, 16 or 24 hours, depending from the different deepening required, in which all the areas of interest and the methodology will be presented and shared. The articulation of the courses can be adapted and tailored following the specific requests of the Authority, or the entities involved, individuals or groups. A preliminary conference can be held, in order to introduce the seminars.

WHERE IS IT POSSIBLE TO ATTEND THE COURSES?

Provided we can meet the minimum number of students required to travel to a certain area, XERDAN is available to teach all over the world. We usually travel to teach the 3-day, 5-day courses. Class size is limited to a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 24 participants; exceptionally 30 attendees. It is possible to schedule multiple seminar or training sessions if there is more people registering.
